The Holy church Radegonde in Cognate-Lyonne

Cognat__1_aThe church Sainte Radegonde of Cognate-Lyonne was built in XIIème century. It preserved of them its octagonal bell-tower, its high pinions auvergnats in front of the transept and its trifoliate bedside. It is the only vestige of the village, which was destroyed during the catholic and Protestant wars of religion opposing.

Cognat__9_aOn the top of the hillock, a memorial tells the battle, with a little humour: “It is in winter that the catholics and the Protestants entretuèrent themselves, on this hill, on January 6, 1568. The Protestant army was victorious, but its chief, the Poncenat captain, was killed by error by his own troops, the evening after the battle”…
