As of the XI ème century, Anastase and Robert, two monks of the strict observance, left the mount to found a hermitage there. Later, Bernard the worthy one builds a priory there. Its church was dedicated to Lying Our-Lady-the or Our-Lady-of-Tombelaine.

The name of Tombelaine can take several significances: nothing to see with Tumba Helena, legendary ethymology of the Middle Ages, but plustot Tumba Beleni, or falls from Belenos, or Dun Belen, mountain of Belenos. There is also the old form of Tumbellana, being able to derive from a root gaulloise, Tum, indicating a raised place, followed by a double diminutive ending, El and An.
