Virgin of Coulandon

About the year 1000, the bishop of Clermont, Etienne II, request with his Aleaume goldsmith to carry out a statue of Virgin to the Child, intended to receive relics, whose wood heart is covered with gold and invaluable stones. This majesty was used as model with an important production intended to present at faithful timeless image of the Mother of God and the Saver. The Virgin sat on a throne, the right head, and of face. She is dressed of a long tunic and a coat with broad handles. The veil on the head lets see its... [Lire la suite]

The cross of Vézelay

Many visitors can pass beside a little marvel, the cross of Vézelay, located at the feet of the hill. It is enough, in front of the frontage of the basilica, to take on the left in direction of a vault of the XII ème century. The slope is perilous… But one is rewarded, at the end of the road, by mink of large piled up stones the ones on the others on which an immense cross is posed. And when it tower of the cross was made, one can see the beautiful cups dug in the stone. They are in fact more size of... [Lire la suite]

Neighbourhoods of Vezelay, Saint-Père

In the middle of Burgundy, in full Celtic and druidic country, Vézelay seems one of the most prestigious sites of knowledge, by teaching the great laws of the life of cosmos Near the site of Vézelay, in Druyes, we find a cave deep, currently blocked, which was called “the cellar with the fairies” and of which the origin and the use go back to one extremely old time. With Saint-Père, we discover the site of the salted fountains dominated by three granite spurs. The site of the Salted Fountains is at the ... [Lire la suite]

Vézelay, the basilica

Always when I approach a high-place, Milan comes to wish me welcome… This time, they were several, I do not have them all on the photograph… The history of the abbey and the town of Vézelay is long and important. The origins are in the valley of the Cure to the foot of the hill, with the site of the old village of Saint-Père, where the existence of a pagan temple and an oratory Saint-Jean-Baptist is known for a long time. The abbey of Vézelay finds its origin with the foundation about year 858... [Lire la suite]

Vézelay, telluric study and symbolic system

Rock of the fairies, enchanted Stones, Stone Who Turn, duly cemented to prevent it pirouetter, on which one perched a statue of the Virgin before flanking it of a monastery. We are in country éduen, Gaule hairy, druidic ground. The monks tried well to bring back this nasty bunch in the bosom connected with the church. There they even believed to succeed. The country-writer Henri Vincenot read in the local  churches an other song: that of the bricklayer's mates, heirs to the druidic knowledge. These could... [Lire la suite]

Molompize and the black virgin of Vauclair

While following the valley of Alagnon, just after Massiac, the village of Molompize has already accents of the south. The former mayor and some of his fellow-citizens play game of bowls on the place. Fortunately, Mister the mayor is charming and agrees to differ his part to go to seek the keys of his church (the  Sainte Foy church was the only possession of the abbey of Conches, except Rouergue), abused by time. There is little, a piece of plaster of roof fell, and since, the visits are prohibited. Miss money for... [Lire la suite]

The vault of Vauclair

This vault is thus a few kilometres from Molompize, by going up the throats of Alagnon. Built with the XIIth century, it was dependent on the chapter of the cathedral of Saint-Flour  and was an important pilgrimage. It has only one nave, the frontage ends in a small bell-tower with comb whose single opening contains a bell. Gate with curves carved. It was classified historic building in 1921 and was restored recently. In the vault, discharges and remainders of a painting... [Lire la suite]

Vassivière

Vasivière would come from '' go iver " (the temple of water);  the site is an old Celtic place honouring the divinities with water of Couze, Clamouze and the lake Pavin. Notre-Dame naturally took the succession of these divinities, like source of life and protective of the travellers. Located at the foot of Puy of Paraillet, at a distance of 8 km of the village of Besse, Vassivière has a holy source, the chapelloune, and dominates the division of two hydraulic basins,... Besse in Chandesse

The origin of Besse in Chandesse is still to elucidate. Concerning the name of the village, one knows that there is nearly thousand years, fires of Besse depended on another place, more important: chandess, today hamlet of Chandèze. At the time medieval, the village affirms its position of stage, of relai, market and fair. The church Saint Andre was built at the end of XIIe. The building, become too small with the surge of the pilgrims coming to venerate Notre Dame de... [Lire la suite]

Cheix

Not far from Besse, while going down again in the valley, the caves of Jonas are there to speak a little history to us. Right before turning on the small shaded road, a small lost village, Cheix. Obligatory stop!   On the side of the road, vis-a-vis a pretty church, (in which a flowered virgin says to us hello, (unfortunately, as usual, one needs the keys!) a stone laid down at the edge of a brook. It is perhaps not a megalith, but it is effective for the evil of back. On... [Lire la suite]
