Vault Saint-Bonnet in Montmelas-Saint-Sorlin
The vault of Saint Bonnet, XIIème century, was a place of pélerinages for the cure of the drop and the headaches.
The
bell-tower, very massive, rests on gantries in semicircular arch,
integrated in masonry. Two Romance capitals decorate the door of entry.
The
church is with the abandonment, the openings are condemned by grids
which make it possible to see the disaster inside. The door of entry is
even built.
Two roads lead to the headland where the vault is established.
One, while leaving on the line the carpark, broad, shone upon, curves around the hill on several kilometers.

The way easy, is well maintained. Two splendid trees keep the entry of the last rise to the sanctuary. A oak and a cedar.
The
other, while leaving on the left, enters a rather dense wood of twisted
fir trees. There, not of light, a dark and oppressive atmosphere, but
the way is right and flat and carries out directly and without turning
to the vault.
Dry way, wet process?
Curiously,
of the bees chose a hole in the southern wall of the vault to elect
residence, as on the northern wall of the church of Rooms-Arbuissonas…

Priory of Saint Martin's day in Salles-Arbuissonas
The
priory of Saint Martin's day de Salles was rested by the monks of Cluny
towards 950. A first church is finished in 1100 of which there remains
the apse and the cloister. The conventual buildings go back to 1150 and
were increased in 1250. After 35O years of presence of the monks
Benedictines, in fact the bénédictines settle there in 1301. At the
beginning of XVème century, they make build the chapter house and
carries which gives on the cloister. In 1647, the ladies bénédictines
become rich seek to be freed from the rule clunisienne.
To
the wire of the centuries, the young women who became “bénédictines
Rooms” came there because they did not find the husband worthy to join
his weapons to their, or that, more simply, they sought a calm
environment near ladies of their condition, while avoiding the rigours
of a too severe fence. In 1777, they pass from the obedience of Cluny
to that, much more tolerant, of the Archbishop of Lyon: they work out
themselves of new statutes which increase the number of districts of
nobility required at the entry and oblige the ladies to build their own
house in a reserved enclosure. The wishes disappear and are replaced by
a Profession which is only one ceremony fixing with a very flexible
payment; in particular, the chanoinesses-countesses have the
possibility of leaving at will during the day and to have maidservants.
The revolution sweeps this sumptuous design of the monastic life.
The houses of the chanoinesses are sold like national goods, three
sides of the cloister are cut down, the sacristy and the church is
plundered.
The cloister
It
is very beautiful even if there remains only one quarter about it since
only the face of raising which skirts the chapter house is still
upright.
The
columns alternate of a large pillar with two coupled posts. The
capitals at the top of the pillars, decorated foliages, are all
different and support ten small arcades with the alternation of a
simple column and two coupled columns, which give to the a whole a
remarkable elegance.
The chapter house of XVème century
Of
Gothic style, it marks the prosperity of XVème century. A large central
pillar supports the vault. The four large spans are crowned by a
keystone carrying one of the four symbols: the lion for Saint marc, the
eagle for Jean Saint, the bull for Luc Saint and the winged man for
Mathieu Saint.
The
angel painted on one of the veins represents a painted angel which
carries the ecu to the black Lion. In the center of this room a large
pillar is which opens out in a crowd of veins which support the vault.
These
veins divide the room into five spans. The more important quatres are
crowned by a keystone which carries one of the animal quatres symbolic
systems of the evangelists whereas the fifth carries a painted angel.
Three repercussions of vaults diminish on pendants decorated with the
same foliage. The room is lit by five windows of which one became a
door.
The
ladies of XVème century had decorated the chapter house of beautiful
paintings, but those of the XVIIIème century covered them with lime. In
the middle of the XIXème century, Mr. the Laurent abbot made scrape the
walls and thus made réapparaitre holy Odilon and holy Hugues abbots of
Cluny.
The visiting room
Powerful
Gothic vaults surprise by the two completely eccentric keys. A curious
character is illustrated there, us showing of his finger… his anus!

Saint-Paul vault or Notre-Dame of the Penny in Lacenas
The
vault dominates the castle of the Penny and the valley of Morgon. Built
about the year 1100, it is a good example of the first Romanesque art.
The
gilded stone frontage presents the traces of two large arcs plug and a
door in semicircular arch of Romance style clunisien of XVème century,
framed by sober pilasters and posts. The small projecting blind arcades
and the capitals of the two pillars reveal a Byzantine and Venetian
influence.
The
nave is framed, and the bell-tower barlong dominates an arched
intermediate span. A modest apse in bottom of furnace is lit by a
narrow window. The interior wall of the chorus was entirely covered
with Gothic frescos with XIIème and XIVème centuries which constitute
the most important whole of the Beaujolais wine.
The vault is open all first Saturday of the month.

The church of Chervinges in Gleizé
Gleizé with the chance to have a long history and a rich and diversified inheritance.
This
old ground of the Lords de Beaujeu, whose certain districts go up at
the time Gallo-Roman, knew important modifications since XIème century,
where some rural fields were established in a covered area of forests.
It
is necessary to await the arrival of the monks Benedictines in XVème
century so that the village of Gleizé around its church is organized,
located then in the valley of Morgon.
In 1809, the commune of Chervinges is joined together in Gleizé.
The church of Chervinges is thus attached to the parish of Gleizé, its part the oldest date of XIIIème century.
It was sold in 1836 and passed with hand in hand. Today, the church became a private property but its owner restored.
Vault of Chevesne in Denicé
We find the trace of the village of Denicé, as Daniceus, as of XIème century.
The
vault of Chevesne de Denicé dates from XIIème century. It was rebuilt
in XVème and was restored recently by the Catelan architect.
The
decoration is of style Gothic blazing with gothic arches. It was a
stage on the way of compostelle, and we find the mérelle one on the
pediment.
With the corner of the bell-tower, sculptures of human heads still in good condition.
