The tower Small window and the cathedral Saint Théodorit Saint

Uzès has prehistoric vestiges which attest of its seniority, around the source of the Eure and in the caves of Alzon.

With V ème century before J.C., the oppidum of Ucetia was the center of a Greek colony, of which there remains a section of wall not far from the fountain Saint Théodorit. Then the Celts occupied the site starting from the III ème century.

Later, the Romans settled and made build an aqueduct of 50 km (the bridge of the gard in is a testimony).

In 1090, on the site of a Roman temple, a first building of Romance style is built. It is under influence of Cluny.

The cathedral was partially destroyed several times during centuries, as during the Albigensian Crusade in 1177, then in 1563 during the wars of religion. Total destruction in 1621. (thank you very much, circulate…)

Only the tower Small window, the bell-tower, remained upright, but cut down by two stages.

Rebuilt of 1642 to 1663, it was transformed into 1801 when it passed from church of évéché to parish church.

Nothing enthralling good, little energy, remains the tower which deserves the die. .tour. More pushed study of its symbolism remains to be made.

Finally, the place with grasses and its fountain made me better impression…
